The Satisfaction of Matched Seams

The Satisfaction of Matched Seams

When you are sewing, many things can go wrong. Anything from needles breaking, threads bunching, bobbin running out of thread, the list just goes on and on! So when something goes right, it makes you smile and the love for sewing grows.

When sewing the lining to the front piece, more often than not, the seams do not match perfectly at the armpit area. To my delight, they matched so nicely! What did I try differently this time? I usually press the seam towards the back so at the point where the folds rest is quite a bit thicker. When you start sewing over the thicker portion, there is a tendency for the fabric to move even when you go slow. So this time, I decided to press the seam towards the back on the front piece and towards the front on the lining. This way, when put right sides together, the bumpy portion kind of match up. Voila, matched seams!

Not sure if it was just a stroke of luck but I'm definitely going to try the same method again and see if I get the same results.

What about you? How do you ensure that your seams match up perfectly?
